Teach in London

Moving your entire life to teach in London or England can be a daunting experience. At Swift Education we are here to assist in making the transition to teach in London as simple and as smooth as possible.

Starting with an initial call, we will spend 10-20 minutes to fully understand your situation and what you are looking for whilst Teaching in London. We encourage people to reach out for this call as soon as they are planning to make the move across, whether that be tomorrow or next year. The earlier the initial call, the more information you will receive to make the most informed decision for you.

Before the call, we will request a CV, whilst not essential, it does allow us to fully understand your working background.

During the call we will go through what type of work you are after and how our teaching agency is best placed to support. If you are looking to secure a long term role before arriving we can assist in organising virtual interviews up to three months before arriving. If you are looking for supply teaching work our agency can support this.

Travel Support

We do hope to find you work in schools, but understand and encourage you to speak with multiple agencies. Why? Because it will give you the best intel as to who is most suited to your individual needs. The following are other key discussion points we can talk you through;

What type of work do you offer?

We assist Teachers and Teaching Assistants find employment in Schools that are right for you. . This can be fulltime long-term positions, short blocks of work and daily cover supply.

If you take on a long-term role you will always be paid to match your experience. This means being paid to scale at a minimum. If you are a graduate, the minimum rate in an outer London school is £176.99. (PAYE) or £204.85 (Umbrella) and goes upwards from this. For teachers looking to do daily supply only, our minimum rate is £160 (PAYE) or £185.27 (Umbrella).

I’m not a qualified teacher, can you help?

Schools in London are constantly looking for unqualified teaching assistant and support staff to join them for temp and long-term roles. If you are interested in a support role our agency can assit. This is a great way to settle into London. It allows income to roll in and provides the flexibility to work around your travel plans .

The minimum daily rate for Teaching Assistants in London Schools is £90 (PAYE) or £100 (Umbrella). If you are in Surrey or other parts of England the minimum is £80 (PAYE) or £89 (Umbrella). If you are open to taking on more responsibility in a school through Unqualified Cover Supervising, the minimum rate in London is £110 (PAYE) or £124.99 (umbrella).

What school types do you work with?

We work with Primary, Secondary and Alternative Provision Schools.

Our Teaching Agency is a preferred supplier for several Independent Private Schools in Central London, so if you are looking to make the transition into the Private sector, please do reach out on how we can assist.

Location wise we predominantly work with Schools in London and Surrey but can work with educators looking for long term roles across the UK.

I’ve heard teaching agencies take a percentage of my salary?

We can’t speak on behalf of all agencies but at Swift Education we do not take any of your salary. You receive the full amount that is quoted to you. The only income we receive is by charging the schools on top of the salary you earn.

We would recommend you read the next blog about the differences between being paid through Pay as you Earn (PAYE) and Umbrella. In short there will be more deductions if you are paid through Umbrella, so make sure you factor this in when negotiating rates.

Ongoing Support

At Swift, we are here to assist as much or little as you require. We understand teachers are often in communication with multiple agencies, and this we 100% encourage. Ultimately what we want is for all educators to enjoy their experience living and working in London. If you decide to go through another teaching agency that is completely fine.
